Obituary for Santina Barbato
April 6, 1939 – July 16, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nonna, and Bis-Nonna, Santina Barbato, on July 16, 2026, at the age of 87.
Santina was predeceased by her devoted husband, Feliciano (Gianni) Barbato, in 2006. Together they shared a loving marriage of 46 years and built a beautiful family with their four children: Lina (John), Filomena (predeceased), Antonella(Victor), and Benito(Anna). Following Gianni's passing, Santina spent the last 20 years as a widow, surrounded by the love and support of her family. She also leaves behind her older brother Ugo(Angelina) and (Angelina) Guido(predeceased), these two brothers were her sponsors in immigrating to Canada in 1966.
For 37 years, Santina operated a family children's daycare from her homes in Burnaby and later Coquitlam. Caring for young children was more than her profession—it was her passion. She found great joy in their laughter, curiosity, and daily adventures, and she touched the lives of countless families in her community with her kindness, patience, and nurturing spirit.
Santina was a proud and loving Nonna to her seven grandchildren: Derek (Angela), Justin (Kristen), Daniel (Jenn), Kaitlyn (Matt), Anthony, Gian-Luca, and Christian. She was also a cherished Bis-Nonna to her six great-grandchildren: Coleton, Zander, Tyler, Liam, Sophia, and Harvey, each of whom brought her immense happiness and pride.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Eagle Ridge Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Santina's final days.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 2888 Delahaye Drive, Coquitlam. Refreshments will follow the service, with Christian burial at 2:00 pm at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.
Santina will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering love, generous heart, gentle spirit, and the lasting legacy she leaves through her family and the many children whose lives she helped shape. May she rest in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Santina's memory to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation. The hospital cared for mom many times over the past few years.
