Obituary for Janet Lynne Bisset

July 13, 1956 – March 31, 2022

Janet passed away peacefully at the Vancouver General Hospital with her husband, Peter and eldest son, Philip by her side.

Janet is predeceased by her mother Florinda (Rinda) (2016). She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Peter; two sons, Philip and Markus; five grandchildren, Taya, Alyssa, Malyna, Luca and Rylie; brother, Richard; as well as a niece, Angela and nephew, Benjamin; and many cousins.

Janet was born in Vancouver, BC, grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and then travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, and North America. During her travels, she called Portugal, Macao, and New Jersey home. In 1992, she returned to North Vancouver to raise her sons. Janet married Peter in 1996. They spent the next 26 years in Vancouver and North Vancouver enjoying the outdoors while sailing, biking, and hiking. Over the last 17 years, Janet spent a lot of time enjoying the company of and being involved with her four granddaughters and one grandson. She was truly happiest when travelling to Victoria or Calgary to be involved with her sons’ families and especially her grandchildren. Spending time with her family and loved ones was certainly her most favorite activity.

Janet’s energy and passion for others was unmatched. When she looked at you with her beautiful cobalt blue eyes, you knew that you were with someone who truly cared about you and would be there to support you. She was a fiercely loyal friend - generous to a fault. Janet was funny, intelligent, brave, truthful, and determined to do whatever she believed was the right thing. A very proud mother and an even prouder grandmother (Jammy – as her grandchildren affectionately called her) truly was the most beautiful person our family could have been gifted with – inside and out.

Janet spent the last 6+ years working passionately with a very important BC charity that she was so proud and driven to have been a part of. Janet was a very important part of helping grow the Stigma Free Society to very impressive success. Please read a wonderful tribute written by our family friend – Andrea - Janet’s boss & dear friend – Founder and President of the Stigma Free Society in this link:".

You are invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” happening on July 14th, 2022, stating at 12 noon at the gorgeous VanDusen Gardens. Janet loved the gardens and was an annual member. She and Peter often visited the gardens by a short bike ride.
