Obituary for Maria Margarita Siucho de Chang
October 25, 1949 – April 14, 2026
With profound sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of our cherished Maria Margarita Siucho de Chang. Maria passed on April 14, 2026, at the age of 76. Born in Lima, Peru, on October 25, 1949, she was the eighth of eleven children. Maria had a passion for the medical field, having once pursued midwifery before devoting herself to the Great Love of Her Life, Gilberto. Her fondest tale was how her father lovingly chose Gilberto as her husband, a choice that gave rise to nearly 60 years of profound companionship. Since Gilberto’s passing two years ago, Maria felt his absence daily.
In her younger days, she was an artist. She completed many beautiful works of art using various media. She was an exceptional cook. She could make a fabulous meal with just a few simple ingredients. She also loved to dance. Maria was often the last one off the dance floor.
She lived a very happy life in Peru with her brothers and sisters. She loved her family in Peru so much for all the support and love they gave her over the years. Part of her heart remained in Peru despite living in Canada most of her adult life.
In 1977, they embarked on a new chapter in Vancouver, joining Gilberto’s parents. There, she embraced beauty school, becoming a skilled hairdresser, before reinventing herself as a licensed real estate agent. Together, Maria and Gilberto poured their passion into real estate—remodeling, constructing, and creating vibrant communities.
Her legacy lives on through her children, Gilbert (Erin) and Meylin (Stephen) and six adored grandchildren-Sofia, Alex, Olivia, Lily, Ava, and Catalina- each of whom she cherished deeply. She radiated with pride when speaking of them and would fondly recount stories from their childhood, beaming with joy whenever she was hugging them. They will undoubtedly miss their Apo. She would always make them laugh with her special sense of humour. She will remain a guiding light in their hearts.
Maria was a spirited, vibrant soul with a fiery wit and temperament. Truly one of a kind, no one ever forgot Mrs. Chang, she will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched.
