May 1, 1952 – December 23, 2025
Mr. Benson Cui was born on May 1, 1952, in Urumqi. He was the second of three children, with an elder brother and a younger sister. His early childhood was once peaceful and happy. However, at the age of seven, his father passed away from stomach cancer, and the family suddenly lost its pillar of support. From that moment on, his life was profoundly changed.
After his father’s passing, his mother, constrained by circumstances, was unable to provide him with much care or emotional comfort. From a young age, he learned to be independent and self-restrained, bearing many of his feelings in silence. Gradually, he became reserved and quiet, not inclined to express himself or to grow too close to others. In that special era, such experiences added a lasting sense of solitude and endurance to his childhood.
In his teenage years, he began to venture more into the outside world, spending time with slightly older youths and finding strength and purpose through sports. In 1969, thanks to his outstanding performance in basketball, he was selected to participate in competitive leagues. In 1972, he returned to Urumqi and worked at an automobile factory for three years, where he was known for his diligence and conscientiousness. In 1976, he was admitted to Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, majoring in Electrical Automation. During his studies, he continued to excel in basketball and was awarded the National Second-Class Basketball Athlete certificate. After graduation, he remained at the university to work until 1982.
In 1979, he met the woman who would become his wife. On August 30, 1981, they were married. As each other’s first love, they supported one another and walked side by side through forty-four years of marriage. In 1984, they welcomed their child, and with the completeness of the family came a deepened sense of responsibility that gradually became the most important commitment of his life. Although the family went through two relocations, family was always at the heart and center of his life. At the end of 1987, the whole family moved back to Beijing. Over the years, he worked with dedication and a strong sense of duty, earning multiple commendations. He eventually retired in 2012 from his position as Chairman of the Trade Union.
In 2015, he moved with his family to Canada and spent ten peaceful and fulfilling years in Vancouver. The natural surroundings, the unhurried rhythm of life, and the companionship of his family brought him a deep sense of contentment and serenity.
At 2:40 a.m. on December 23, 2025, he passed away due to a sudden cardiovascular illness. Despite all efforts to save him, he left us at the age of seventy-three.
Throughout his life, he was quiet and restrained, always placing responsibility before himself and keeping his emotions within. To his family, he was a dependable husband, a devoted father, and a respected elder. The path he walked, the responsibilities he bore, and the love he gave will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
With deepest remembrance and love,
His family
