Barbara Ann Galloway, born September 7, 1937, in Empress, Alberta, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and remarkable strength.
Barbara was one of twenty children born to Mary and Nicolas Bosch. She often shared cherished stories of her upbringing on the family farm—days filled with hard work, but also with abundant love and food on the table. Those early years shaped her resilient spirit and deep appreciation for family.
She grew up in Kelowna and later moved to Vancouver, where she met the love of her life, Walt.
Together they moved to Coquitlam where they built a life full of warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to their family.
Barbara was truly one of a kind. In a time before the internet, she taught herself countless skills and took pride in doing things on her own. Whether she was landscaping the backyard, building fences, renovating the basement, or tackling any project that came her way, she approached it all with determination and creativity.
She was also an avid golfer—and, as her family will fondly admit, she was better than her three boys. At home, she filled the house with the comforting aromas of her incredible cooking. From homemade cinnamon buns and fresh bread to kuchen, borscht, chicken noodle soup, hand-made noodles and so much more. Her kitchen was the heart of the home. Her family knew just how lucky they were.
Barbara had a special talent for needlework, including cross stitch, embroidery and petit point, making many beautiful pictures that adorned her home. She lovingly cross stitched Christmas stockings for friends and family over the years, each one handmade, personalized and treasured.
Mom had a passion for watching all sports, from curling, to hockey, football, basketball and of course her beloved Blue Jays.
She had a kind and caring heart, always putting others first, and her sense of humor stayed with her until her very last day. Her stories and adventurous spirit brought endless laughter to those around her—from her brief stint as a beekeeper (which didn’t end well) to her daring attempt to jump a ramp on a bike during the Evel Knievel days (also not her finest moment), the bra up the flag pole at the family reunion, all of these precious memories that always left everyone smiling. She was, without question, the coolest mom on the street—starting water fights and making life joyful for everyone around her.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her sons Kenny, Dave (Nicole), and Kevin (Kerri); her grandchildren Brendan (Grayson), Alex, and Audrey; and by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We can’t thank the Doctors, nurses, and staff at RCH enough along with the first responders. You’ve all treated her with so much care, compassion, and dignity. You are truly unsung heroes.
Rest in peace, our sweet angel. Dance with Dad again. We couldn’t have been luckier to have you as our Mom.
