Obituary for Frank Geulen

Frank Geulen was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1937. He came to Canada in 1957 and built a long, hardworking career in the automotive and industrial sectors. Frank began with Volkswagen in the service department and worked his way up to Service Manager. His career took the family through Toronto, Montreal, and Winnipeg before he was transferred to Vancouver. When Volkswagen wanted him to return to Toronto, he made a firm decision — he wasn’t going back.
Frank then worked for Datsun before moving into hydraulics, eventually heading the British Columbia division of Basic Hydraulics, later Bosch Rexroth Canada. He finished his career having guided the British Columbia division to great successes.
Frank lived with drive — literally and figuratively. He loved cars, loved the road, and spent seven winters competing in the BEMC Winter Car Rally. He played golf every Monday while he worked and even more in retirement. In the 1980s, he ran the Vancouver Marathon, throughout his life cycled, skied, and stayed active because that was simply who he was.
Frank also made a significant impact in Canadian team handball. He served as President of the Canadian Team Handball Federation and was both a player and a coach for men’s and women’s teams. Under his leadership, the teams in British Columbia were highly successful, and he was known for his drive, discipline, and ability to get the best out of people.
Frank and his wife, Eve, shared many years of travel together, exploring places and enjoying the time they worked hard to earn.
Frank died peacefully with Eve by his side.
He is survived by his daughters Martina and Corinna, his grandchildren Michelle, Michael, and Jeremy, and his great grandson Levi. Frank was predeceased by his granddaughter Tamara.
