Obituary for Ho Shing Fan 何成藩

Peacefully and surrounded by family, 何成藩 (Ho Shing Fan) passed away on April 19, 2026 at the age of 94 years.
Ho Shing Fan was affectionately known as 老豆 (“Dad”), 公公 (“KungKung”/ Grandpa), and more recently, 太公 (“TaiGong”/Great-grandpa). He was born on July 24, 1931 in the town of Xiaolan in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, the fifth of six siblings to parents 何光昌 (Ho Kwong Cheong) and 陳連興 (Chan Lin Hing).
In his teenage years, Shing moved to Hong Kong and began working at a Swiss company that imported brand name products. He attended evening school after his shifts to learn English, and had excellent penmanship. A proud and diligent employee, Shing worked his way from an office assistant to a department head, and retired after 36 years of service.
Shing married 莫鳯 (Mok Fung) in 1958 and together they raised their daughter Jennifer and son Raymond with love and care. In 1993, the couple immigrated to Canada to live with Jennifer, her husband Luke, and their children Tiffany and Gilbert.
Shing was an organized person, and kept meticulous records of many things including international and special issues of coins and stamps. A believer in luck and superstition, he indulged in betting on horse races in Hong Kong, and in Canada, he never missed a week of playing the Lotto 649. Shing enjoyed going for dim sum and cooking dinner for his family—and was a voracious meat eater. He liked going on walks and gardening at home, growing flowers and vegetables. Most of all, he loved his family, and made it a priority to pass on traditions and spend important celebrations together, such as Chinese New Year (過年), Dragonboat Festival (端午節), Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) and Winter Solstice (過冬).
Shing will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Jennifer (Luke) Kwong, son Raymond Ho, grandchildren Tiffany (Christopher) Poon and Gilbert Kwong, great-grandchildren Evelyn and Jonathan Poon, his elder sister 何雪蘭, and numerous relatives. He was predeceased by his wife 莫鳯 (Mok Fung), and siblings 何成炘, 何成鑑, 何雪聘, and 何成焜.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta, where Shing stayed for six months since July 2024, and to the staff at Elim Village Fleetwood in Surrey, where he lived the rest of his life.
Their care and compassion made a world of difference for him and the family, and provided us all with great comfort.
A private service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026.
