Obituary for Richard Anthony ‘Tony’ Mayo
November 23, 1942 – August 23, 2026
With sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Tony Mayo at age 83 following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Owatana, Minnesota, he immigrated to Canada in the 1970’s and moved with his family to Abbotsford BC in 1989.
Tony was a lifelong artist, a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, mentor, author, adventurer and active member of the Explorers Club of New York City, Artists for Conservation, Abbotsford Nature Club and Life Spring Church. His adventures took him around the world, visiting 106 countries, avidly collecting artifacts to preserve the ‘endangered human cultures’ he loved to study. His last grand adventure was to Morocco in April with his beloved wife Holly, followed by Portugal with all their children and grandchildren in May. Tony became ill on that trip, and we blamed it on a camel burger he had eaten in Morocco. Four months from the day he departed for Morocco, he embarked on the greatest adventure of all eternity, to join his Lord Jesus Christ in Glory.
Survived by his wife Holly (Kerbrat) Mayo, their children Christina Mayo (Greg), Dana MacLean (Becky) and Brandi MacLean (Mackenzie), grandchildren Brooklyn, Cayden and Tristan, and his older brother John Mayo (Sylvia), sister-in-saw Susan Long, and countless extended family and friends.
Tony’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 3pm at Life Spring Church, 3970 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford. Light refreshments to follow.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and all the staff at ARHCC for their genuine compassion and care during Tony’s 8 week stay.
