Obituary for Mok, Fung

June 24, 1934 - January 20, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mok Fung (莫鳯) announces her passing. With her son Raymond, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Luke by her bedside, she took her last breath peacefully in the early hours of January 20, 2022.

Mok Fung was affectionately known as 婆婆 (“PorPor”/Grandma), 媽咪 (“Mommy”) and 何太 (Mrs. Ho). She was born on June 24, 1934 in the Xinhui District, Guangdong City, China, the youngest of five siblings to parents 莫億明 (Mok Yick Ming) and 梁盛 (Leung Sing). In her teenage years, she moved to Hong Kong, where she met her future husband, Ho Shing Fan (何成藩). They married in 1958, had two children, and worked hard to raise a strong and loving family. In 1993, Fung and Shing Fan immigrated to Canada to live with Jennifer, Luke, and grandchildren Tiffany and Gilbert.

For Mok Fung, family was everything. Food was her love language and she loved to feed people and cook delicious Chinese meals for everyone. She had a sweet tooth and a big appetite. Her favourite food was “everything.” She enjoyed going for dim sum, playing mahjong and chatting on the phone. Her favourite colours were red and pink. Traditions were important to her, and she always made it a priority to spend important celebrations together, such as Chinese New Year (過年), Dragonboat Festival (端午節), Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) and Winter Solstice (過冬).

Mok Fung will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Ho Shing Fan, son Raymond (Safina) Ho, daughter Jennifer (Luke) Kwong, and grandchildren Tiffany (Christopher) Poon and Gilbert Kwong.

The family wishes to send a special thank-you to family doctor Stephen Kwok and the staff at Fraser Health’s Gateway Home Health, as well as Laurel Place Hospice, for their care and compassion.

A small, private service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Due to COVID-19, this will be limited to family members only. Flowers may be sent to the chapel at Vancouver Memorial Services and Crematorium (5505 Fraser Street, Vancouver), between 8:20-8:30 a.m. on the day of the service.

Family and friends are welcome to leave a message or memory in the guestbook below. Thank you.
