Obituary for Roy Maurice Perron

March 23, 1957 – January 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Maurice Perron on January 2, 2024. He leaves to mourn his wife Elizabeth, his Mother, sisters Denise and Yvonne, brother-in-law Fatih and nieces Rukiya and Akaysa.

Roy was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 23, 1957. He was born with spinal bifida spending his whole life confined to a wheelchair. He went to school in Calgary until grade 8. Then moved to Richmond, BC in 1973. Roy graduated from Steveston Senior Secondary school in June 1975. Later, he graduated as a certified bookkeeper from Vancouver Vocational Institute in 1979. He graduated from computer college in 1987.

The first time of many, he was in the newspaper when he was just a few years old. He was the Easter seals child. A singer made a song about him.

Even though he spent a lot of the time in the hospital, Roy led a full life. He belonged to the Wheeling 8’s and Theatre Terrific group.

He went on 2 Alaska cruises, a trip to Disney World and Orlando, a trip to Las Vegas, plus vacations in Quebec where he visited his Quebec family.

Although Roy was a very quiet person, he had a keen sense of humour and never ever complained. He accepted his life the way it was. He was an inspiration to many people.

In his last few years, Roy enjoyed hiking and kayaking with the disability foundation.

Many, many thanks to all the doctors and nurses and volunteers who took care of Roy.

A memorial service for Roy will be held at his place of residence, Kelly Court on March 23, 2024.
