James Frederick Pickering

Obituary for James Frederick Pickering

November 13, 1947 – May 26, 2022

On May 26, 2022, our much-loved father and grandfather, James Frederick Pickering begun his journey into the spirit world at the age of 74 years peacefully and courageously surrounded by his children.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Mark Sheldon, Sara Jane, Aren Michelle, Matthew Thomas, and Kaytlyn Rose (Courtney); grandchildren: Ethan James, Emily Michele, Peyton Rose and Wyatt Frederick; brother, Richard Pickering, sister, Brenda Popeniuk; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his sisters Peggy and Marilyn; and his parents: Alfred and Pauline Pickering.

James was most proud of his children and grandchildren and his work for the City of Burnaby. He loved his family, football, hockey pools, music and food. He shared many stories and had fond memories of growing up in Burnaby and family summers in Vernon. He fought a long and hard battle against cancer wanting to ensure his children were looked after, cared for and knew he loved them. He fought to be able to witness his first and eldest grandson graduate high school, his daughter’s marriage and birth of son, and to simply just be with his children and grandchildren for as long as he could.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the family’s home.

His children wish to send a special thank you to the staff at Laurel Place Hospice for their care and compassion. James fondly called you his friends, always said you took great care of him and enjoyed when you called him handsome. It put a smile on his face.
