Obituary for Darren Thomas-Murray Saklofsky
July 4, 1965 – March 2, 2026
It is with deep sadness but profound love for the man that we announce the passing of Darren Thomas-Murray Saklofsky at the age of 60. He passed at Vancouver General Hospital in the early hours of March 2, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. In typical Darren fashion (à la stubborn!) he had to make it just a bit dramatic, but ultimately peaceful in the end as he was always one to take care of the people he loved.
Darren was born in Kamloops BC on July 4th, 1965, to James (Jim, Sak/Saker) Saklofsky and Suzanne Saklofsky (nee: Querns). Darren is survived by his three children Sage Saklofsky, Peyton Saklofsky (Noah) and Gabriel Saklofsky (Maddy); siblings Jamie Saklofsky (Karen), Tricia Winter, Jennifer Saklofsky, Sean Saklofsky, Ryan Saklofsky (Sven), and David Saklofsky. As well as his extended family Grandma Vicki, Jenn and Neil. Darren is predeceased by his Grandmother Mabel, Brother-In-Law Rob, Father Jim and sister Danielle.
Darren's many aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces will profoundly miss his kindness, acceptance and love. Darren was so much fun to be around to have a meaningful conversation or laugh or two with. If you were lucky enough to call Darren a friend you knew that you had his unwavering support, loyalty and love, no matter what, or how long since you last spoke or saw one another. Just knowing Darren was something special, not easily replaced.
Darren grew up in the Brocklehurst area of North Kamloops where he spent his formative years of his life playing road hockey, basketball and swimming in his back yard. Young Avenue will always be a special place and time in the hearts for those who grew up with him.
In the late 80's, and early 90's Darren resided in North Vancouver where he enjoyed life water skiing with family and friends in his beloved ski-boat. In the mid-90's Darren re-acquainted with Jody Briscoe and they started a family residing in New Westminster and then Richmond where the kids graduated from high school and became the fine adults that Darren was extremely proud of.
Darren was quite the athlete growing up in Kamloops, playing for Rep hockey teams in Minor, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget Hockey. Darren was an exceptional fastball player, playing minor fastball on rep teams in Kamloops, and even playing for the BC provincial title. He continued to play on the senior men's fastball teams in Kamloops and Vancouver. During his high school years, he played Rugby, winning the Okanagan championships; first at Brock Junior high school in 1980 then at Norkam Senior Secondary in 1981 and 1982. In 1982 his Norkam team won a silver at the B.C High school rugby provincials and won gold at the 1983 Rugby provincials. Later, he played broomball in Kamloops for the Plaza Reds, where he won the provincial league championship title, and played in the National Championships when it was in Kamloops. He had a passion for water, especially water skiing. It is safe to say he was an excellent all-round athlete.
Sports didn't stop there for Darren as he supported his girl's playing softball, and Gabe playing baseball, basketball, lacrosse and football. Darren made many cross-border trips with Gabe for baseball. Proud Papa saw Gabe win a city champion football title and National Championship in flag football.
Darren's professional career always included tremendous work ethic and loyalty to those he worked for, whether it was CN Rail, Kal Tire Retread plant, QF Foods/Versacold or Tas Refrigerated Distribution. In the fall of 2000 Darren played a more than significant role in the TAS Vancouver warehouse start up, development and ultimately, its unparalleled success. For more than 25 years, and to this day, customers and service providers still regard Darren with the highest esteem. The relationships Darren built there, whether they be with those he worked for, those he led, his peers or customers, for him was always considered something special.
Darren always had a thing with animals, every creature whether dog, cat, albino ferret or his best friends' lizards, they were all somehow drawn to him, most of all his beloved German Shepherd Kaos. It says a lot about a person when animals feel comfortable enough to share their trust and love you unconditionally.
Needless to say, Darren will be greatly missed by those who knew him but never forgotten. His smile, laugh, comforting hugs and booming voice will live on in our memories for years to come.
