Obituary for Hyacinth Marcella Shreeves (Tull)

March 20, 1949 – December 14, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the passing of my mother Mrs. Hyacinth Shreeves (Tull). Hyacinth passed away on December 14, 2023, at the age of 74. Hyacinth passed after fitting a short-lived terminal cancer. She lived with vascular dementia for many years.

Hyacinth, also known as “Marla” was born on March 20, 1949, to Hubert and Eileen Tull. She was born in in the parish of St. Micheal in Barbados. After Hyacinth attended Federal High school and graduated from St. Anthony High School. She became a teacher and taught at Grace Hill Primary school.

Once she immigrated to Canada British Columbia in 1975, she graduated with a degree in a Bachelor of Nursing. Her first job was with Shaunessy hospital in Vancouver. She continued to work for many years as a registered nurse. Some of the other places of work were Surrey Memorial hospital and Crestlene Lodge.

She met her husband at the time, David, in 1977. They had one daughter, Sharon, that was born in 1981.

Hyacinth's hobbies were travelling, dancing, singing, reading, and gardening. She spent lots of her time helping others. And engaged in a nonprofit association for many years; known as the Barbados Cultural Association of British Columbia.

Hyacinth was predeceased by her brothers Walter and Samuel Tull. She is survived by siblings Marjorie Tull, Charles Tull, Lloyd Tull, Barbara Humphrey (Tull), Aileen Tull and Carl Tull. Her daughter and two grandsons will surely miss her.

Funeral Services will be held at Olivet Baptist Church on February 2, 2024, at 1100am. Reception to follow at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Center at 1230pm.
