Obituary for Kwan Kuen Leo Tang

September 11, 1935 – December 26, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Leo Tang, who was born on September 11, 1935 in Hong Kong. At the age of 88, he left this world peacefully in his sleep on December 26, 2023, surrounded by his beloved daughter Anna and son-in-law Peter at his hospital bed.

A devoted educator, our father retired after 22 years of wholehearted service at La Salle Primary School in Hong Kong. He was passionate about education, leading student study tours to foreign countries, immersing himself in local languages and cultures. His commitment to learning and sharing knowledge was evident in every aspect of his life.

In his retirement years, he lived in Vancouver, close to his daughter Anna’s family. There, he self-taught his way to culinary proficiency, quietly mastering the art of creating delightful dishes that were enjoyed by family and friends.

Our father was a loving husband, he shared 64 beautiful years with his wife, Teresa. They were always together, hand in hand. As they grew old together, the care and love in his eyes when he looked at her were evident, a testament to their enduring love and companionship.

As a dedicated father, his family was always his priority, steadfast in providing for their needs and ensuring his children had access to the best learning opportunities. His home was abundant with food, nourishing both minds and bodies.

To his grandchildren, he was more than a grandfather; he was a teacher and a guide. They remember him for his love for learning, his joy of singing, and his appreciation for the timeless humor of Charles Chaplin movies. His insights and guidance will forever remain in their hearts.

He leaves behind his wife Teresa; his daughter Anna, her husband Peter, and their children Brian and Michelle; his son Anthony; and his son William, his wife Anita, and their children Alicia, Caitlyn, and Ryan. Each one of them carries a piece of his spirit, his love, and his teachings.

As we bid farewell to our father, we celebrate a journey marked by love, dedication, and a belief that every day is a learning opportunity. His beloved idioms, riddles, and quotes often enlightened and amused us, continuing to bring joy even in his absence.

Though he may be gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts, enriching us with his lessons and warming us with memories of his love. Rest in peace, dear father, as your teachings continue to inspire and shape us.
