Obituary for Teresa Lai Fong Tang
October 31, 1937 – April 5, 2026
With love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother on April 5, 2026, at the age of 88, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. She passed gently in her sleep.
Born on October 31, 1937, in Hong Kong, she had a joyful nature that made her easy to be with. She worked as an elementary school teacher, a role she enjoyed and took pride in throughout her career.
She was a pretty girl, and her beauty captured the heart of her future husband, Leo Tang, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime. They shared 64 beautiful years of marriage and were rarely apart, always side by side. In his later years, when his mobility declined, she cared for him with unwavering devotion, day and night, giving of herself completely. In her later years, dementia became, in some ways, a quiet blessing, sparing her the deep sorrow of losing him.
As her children, we remember parents who shared the same priorities, providing for the family and ensuring we had every opportunity to learn and grow. They took us on outings that filled our childhood with simple joys, and our home was always abundant with food, comfort, and togetherness.
She found joy in simple pleasures, especially playing mahjong with family and friends. Yet she would always set it aside without hesitation to care for her husband and her grandchildren.
As a grandmother, she was loving and devoted. She provided dedicated, gentle, attentive care for her first grandchild, forming a close and lasting bond. Even as he later studied and worked in different cities, he always made time to connect with her through FaceTime. Her grandchildren treasure memories of sleepovers, beach outings, ice cream treats, and the gentle comfort of her lullabies, moments filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
She is survived by her daughter Anna, her husband Peter, and their children, Brian and Michelle; her son Anthony; and her son William, his wife Anita, and their children, Alicia, Caitlyn, and Ryan.
We take comfort in knowing she is at peace, held in the love she shared with our father. She will be remembered with love, in the many quiet and beautiful ways she touched our lives and cared for those around her.
