Obituary for Beverley Ann Tiller

May 6, 1936 – January 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Beverley Ann Tiller (nee Armstrong) in her 88th year on January 2, 2024 in Vancouver. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Shelley (Scott), grandchildren Cameron (Amanda) and Colin (Eleanor) and great-granddaughter, Addison.

Bev was born on May 6, 1936, in Carlea, Saskatchewan. Bev and her family eventually moved to Sudbury, Ontario, where she attended public school and high school. After high school, Bev attended Marymount School of Nursing and graduated in 1957. Following graduation, Bev moved to Victoria where she worked in a doctor’s office. In 1967, she moved to Vancouver where she had a varied nursing career including working at the Vancouver City Jail, Woodward’s Department Store and Vancouver General Hospital.

Because of Bev’s love of nursing, she decided to go back to school. She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the mid 1980’s. Following graduation Beverley began her career as a Public Health Nurse working in the City of Vancouver with a focus on Long Term Care. She retired at 65 in 2001.

Bev not only cared for people, she also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and they seemed to know it… they arrived on her doorstep knowing she would never turn them away. Her quick wit and dry sense of humour made her fun to be around. As a mother, she loved unconditionally and generously and she was an adored mother-in-law. Bev was also a proud and loving grandmother to her grandsons, Cam and Colin, and the time spent with her great-granddaughter, Addison, brought her much joy in her latter years.

Our thanks to the staff at Fair Haven Vancouver for the excellent care they provided to Bev in her final years. A celebration of life will be held in May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fair Haven Homes Society (Vancouver) or a charity of your choice.
